Education

The health disparities course (HHE 446) is the course that has helped me understand and unfold how health care is delivered and financed. In addition, it has increased my knowledge of eliminating racial and ethnic disparities in health in efforts to prevent diseases, promote health, and provide appropriate care.

Program evaluation in health promotion(HHE 566) is another course that is helping me, especially in my internships, to collect evidence about the efficacy of my organization's program. For example, we carry out mobile food pantries. The knowledge I gained from this course has enabled me to justify using resources among people and identify unexpected outcomes.

Another impactful course is the stress management class (HHE 440), which keeps me on my toes when I feel frustrated or overwhelmed with assignments or my internship job. As a result, I have been able to calm myself down when stressed, meditate or seek help when I most need it.

I also love my Conflict Resolution course (CSM 525). Conflict resolution class has played a considerable role in my communication and leadership roles in my internship job and real-life situations. I can manage and solve conflicts while using the steps to resolve disputes until coming to an amicable solution. For example, I used my best alternative to a negotiated agreement when convincing couples to join our relationship classes as an intern. My BATNA provides me with options if negotiations fall through while determining my reservation point.

Lastly is my Drugs, Society, & Human Behavior course9HHE 378), which has enabled me to deal with various teens misusing drugs. Through the knowledge I gained from this class, I analyze the role of drug education in public schools and determine its impact on substance use and abuse patterns.
